From Josh Gad Writing 'Gorgeous George' Biopic Movie for WWE Studios

WWE Studios will co-develop the George Raymond Wagner biopic “Gorgeous George” alongside Robert Halmi Jr.’s Great Point Media, with Josh Gad and partner Ryan Dixon writing the script.

“Gorgeous George” will chronicle the life and career of Wagner, the professional wrestler and sports entertainer credited with inspiring the flamboyant personas of performers such as Muhammad Ali and James Brown and helping bring sports into the TV age.

“Gorgeous George was a true pioneer in television,” said Michael Luisi, President of WWE Studios. “Josh is a true talent and we are thrilled to see him and Ryan tackle such a groundbreaking story.”

Gad recently wrapped production on the Disney film “Beauty And The Beast” opposite Emma Watson and Luke Evans. He will begin production in January on STX Entertainment’s “Russ And Roger Go Beyond” as Roger Ebert.

WWE Studios will handle worldwide rights and will use WWE’s platforms, including weekly TV shows, digital and social media and the WWE Network, to market this title.

Gad is represented by Ziffren Brittenham, WME and Brillstein Entertainment Partners. Dixon is represented by Ziffren Brittenham and ICM Partners. Bradley Buchanan negotiated on behalf of WWE Studios.

:ohhh: WWE making a biopic instead of generic genre flicks/horrible action films starring the Miz

I hope Josh Gad isn't in this movie as Gorgeous George though :upsetfavre:

That Jake Roberts biopic would be fire if they got the right people to write/direct @TheGodling @PlayerNinety_Nine @Silkk :wow:

A Jake Roberts biopic would be deep. If they make it with the same intensity as his promos :whew:

The fukkery of a Ric Flair biopic though: The coke, the booze, the women, the coke, surviving a plane crash, The Four Horsemen, the blading, the coke, Space Mountain, the crying, the coke.:whoo:

And honestly, they're fukking up if no-one has pitched 'Hard Times' - The Life Of Dusty Rhodes yet.

A Ric Flair biopic is something I'd really would love to see, although with the WWE's hands on it they'd probably make it PC as hell and casually ignore the drugs, the alcohol, pretty much all the bad stuff.

If they treated a bunch of the older heads with any dignity, a Flair biopic is something they could have pitched to a major studio. He's part of American pop culture.

As it stands now. Studios would probably say " You mean this guy?

nah - we're good"

Hogan's made more than enough movies himself though :comeon:

:ohhh:

So do they have to pay Savage's estate to use the name, or what. Who owns it now? I don't see it on WWE trademarks

hogan biopic where vince is seen coming up with the hulkamania gimmick and giving it to an unsuspecting terry bollea.

austin after being fired by wcw on the verge of committing suicide until he got the call from vince.

the eric bischoff story. sneaky eric bischoff builds wrestling empire on stolen ideas and underhanded tactics. recalls the street fight he and vince had in which vince body pressed him onto the concrete and made him cry for his mommy.
