Its a good watch. I recommend it.
Basically:
-The tariffs are good for Argentina, Brazil and others who are selling soy beans to Asia.
-Soybeans are also a way of rotating crops to preserve the quality of the soil so the farmers can grow other things.
-Farmers have already taken loans with the expectation that china would buy their soybeans like they did before the tariffs.
-They are on the hook for those loans and need money NOW.
-If they don't get their money, they'll be forced to sell.
-The lack of soybean sales and the deportations has downstream effects in the meat industry. If they miss their sales targets, they too might be forced to sell.
-The supreme court will decide next month whether its even legal for Trump's tariffs to exist which might mean they go away.
Here's what I think and what it means for us:
-This is all according to plan. Trump and his friends are investors who have money in real estate investment trusts(REITs) and money in agribusiness.
-The farmers may lose their independence, but selling their land will make them millionaires. Farm WORKERS are low or middle income, but farm OWNERS are sitting on assets that are worth a lot of money.
-The supreme court is the most big business friendly court in years. Since the failure of the business plot(look it up, there's a reason they don't teach that in schools) millionaires and billionaires have been spending money on think tanks and scholarships to produce business friendly lawyers they can send to congress, federal courts and the Supreme court. The current makeup of the government and courts is the culmination of BILLIONS of dollars of investment. The court will rule in trump's favor just as they have done in the past, especially considering 3 of the justices are trump appointees and at least two are conservative zealots.
-The farm owners will be forced to sell because of their debts and trump will try to draft some legislation or subsidy to give them extra money so they stay loyal to him. The companies that buy farm assets and the farmers both end up making money, which also means conservatives or anyone invested in agribiz makes money.
What that means for you is that if you have investments in REITs like gladstone Land(LAND) or Farmland Partners(FPI) your investments will shoot up in value within the next couple years. Trump will eventually cut the tariffs down and it will be business as usual again, except this time more farms will be owned by the REITs and farmers who somehow didn't sell will get government subsidies to keep them afloat and benefit from the big bullshyt bill tax cuts.
Fire up your robinhood or whatever app you use to trade and make some money. There might be some multinational corporations who try to get in on the free for all that's coming when those farmers are forced to sell. You can either let yourself get stressed out and feel powerless when you watch the news, or you can be smart about it and try to make some money. EVERYTHING that happens, happens because someone is making money off it. You can either be one of the people screaming into the void, or you can be someone who finds a way to make money and use that money to protect your family and your community. We have a golden opportunity now where investing is no longer gatekept by complicated financial jargon and stock brokers who you have to trust. You can just invest directly in funds and companies. Take the opportunity while you still can and make some money.
