He is the prototype of rapping good but about absolutely nothing

this is his peak ... I think dissing people that pop pills just alienated 90% of his fans as well :russ:

he doesn't need hits, he needs a fanbase

Joyner isnt the type of artist that will pop off with some huge single. He needs to find an audience and cater to them. take the J. Cole, Logic etc approach

everyone talkin about what he needs to do like his video doesn't have 10 million views in a week.. he's doing better than I would have ever imagined right now..
You said the millions of views in a week thing already. He definitly created a moment with his social commentary. That's the power of the internet/social media. But how many of the people who saw that video do you think are going to go out and buy a record, buy merch or go to a show or are actually fans? Don't let the internet skew your perception of reality. The VIDEO is great but even if released just as a song it wouldn't even make an impact. It's similar to that 69 guy. He got millions of views based off of the weirdness of it all, not because he has millions of fans or even because of the song itself.

J Cole is backed by Jay Z plus he has hits. I don't feel that that's a good comparison, especially if he can't get a release date because of his labels demand for a hit. Can't speak for Logic, I don't know his story as well but I get the whole make a solid album approach.

You ever heard the old saying that you aren't in the music business until you have a hit?

I'm not saying that dude won't have a career but to flat out say that you don't need a hit in the music business is the same as saying I don't need a hit in baseball. Hell, even Rawkus records back nthe day told the artist to at least give them two singles per records...

Not gonna front like I really read and digested anything you said, and that's not a shot..I'm on the move so I had to quickly browse over your post..

But I'll just say this, chasing a hit is never the way to go with an artist like dude. He'd alienate the little fan base he has if he even attempted that. What he needs to do is make music that caters to HIS fans, organically build that fanbase from the ground up and let everything else (hit records) fall into place...

Joyner doesn't strike me as someone who will ever have a big single that rings off, but...It's 2017 guys. He doesn't have to. You can make a living in the music industry without dominating the radio. That philosophy is super outdated...

Look at Vince Staples, KRIT, etc.

Half them cats never really did that shyt or exaggerated.

Being a fake gangster/drug dealer > being a real drug addict, any day of the week.

No one said that you can't have a career without a hit. But to take that and go as far as to say I don't need a hit because I have a career and have no aspirations of wanting to make a hit is hella goofy.

Some music industry philosophies are indeed outdated in 2017. Having hit records isn't and will never be one of them. lol
