I was officially off that movie when I learned that the black woman was a city worker and not a PhD like the other three. In the original, the black character was a PhD like his colleagues.

Winston didn't have one. His character WAS going to be a former marine with multiple Phd's but literally the night before filming they sent Ernie Hudson the new script and the character just became a broke dude that needed money.
