Unfortunately, unless or until that trade happens for a top-end SP, for the present, we're probably gonna have to hold on to Sonny Gray for a bit longer. At least until CC is ready to assume his normal role. Gray can't leave fast enough for me....

Yankees' CC Sabathia Expected to Make Full Recovery After Having Heart Surgery

Yes, DRob is a loss to the squad. He's one of my favorites out of the bullpen going back to 2009, when everyone was hyping Joba, but DRob was the one getting shyt done. He'll always be a Yankee, but it appears that Cashman is on his lowball steez so far and DRob took the better offer. Can't blame him.

We need Britton, but we also needed another RP as well. It's always been said that we were in the market for 2 RPs this offseason. I don't know enough about Ottovino, but he appears to be on the radar for that role.

So far, Cashman has done the following this offseason:

    Ignored Corbin
    Traded for Paxton
    Signed Tulo
    Bushed AJ Cole finally
    Missed on DRob
    Signed Britton

TBD whether we go Evil Empire mode or not
    2nd RP?
    Machado?
    Harper?
    Gray trade?
    Trade for top SP?

I wasn't expecting Houdini back anyway cuz I thought he'd want one more shot at closing, but if you believe that story of him pissing the team off with the playoff shares, that kinda sealed it.

as for the rotation, I'm not gonna write off German yet. He's a good ST away from at least getting first crack at those available spot starts. The kid has good stuff.

Basically Tell a guy he sucks and you want to trade him

Now you might want to keep him around cuz of the flabby old starter you have

I think the feeling's mutual though.

Gray wants no parts of NY and NYY can't get rid of this dude quick enough. He just ain't built for it. Cashman gave him the chance to shine and Gray continually wilted. But on road trips, somehow he pitched pretty good. Sounds like a mental thing, similar to Greinke.

2018 CC>>>>> 2018 Gray by far. It's a much easier thing to pencil in CC in 2019 than Gray, who is too much of a wildcard. This is CC's last year. He's back for that final WS ring and to close out his records chase. No one foresaw CC needing heart surgery in December. Sh*t happens.

At best, he stays and pitches well enough to rebuild his trade value, then we can package him with others to upgrade SP for the near future. No matter how Gray pitches, he's only tradebait when CC comes back.

Would the Padres also be interested in Jacoby? Because that’s the perfect place to disappear.

Yeah, that's a fact. But he can be serviceable on the road. He has a lot of value in MLB. It's just not in Yankee Stadium 3.

Cashman will get what he's looking for. To be honest, when was the last time that Cashman got fleeced on a trade???

Gray is just a security blanket until CC recovers from heart surgery. With Jordan Montgomery also recovering, it doesn't hurt to hold on to Gray a bit longer. But make no mistake, he's a goner.

I've long come to grips with the fact that we're stuck with Ellsbury. Never understood that signing as a reaction to Cano signing in Seattle. I wonder if that was an ownership directive. It literally made no sense then, and now even worse.

They already took Headley off our hands for free. If they did the same with Jacoby they should get a plaque in Monument Park.

They shoulda just Tulo'd him and paid him to go away.
