Do you know what an electronic database?
Do you know how to navigate a library?
Why should I believe you're capable of writing a 30 page essay when you're showing me how ignorant you are when it comes to research on an academic topic.
Going to the library was the first thing I did. You know when a subject has its own floor and the books are sorted in alphabetical order, it is easy to find what you are looking for. Making it a step easier is the contents page at the start of the book.
I would then use the electronic database to search for journals and other research/information on the matter.
Using Google would be the last thing I would do. It is not helpful because the information is returns is crap.
It is something I find concerning actually. When you understand a subject matter, you know how limited the information on Google is. The problem is most people don't have a good enough understanding of a subject to use as a reference point for how reliable the information is.
And if you are to do what you have suggested, using Google to find relevant material, you still need to spend time going through the information. That takes time.

The problem with using Google is that unverified data is mixed with verified data. You're, as you mentioned, going to have to search for the source for each piece of information you encounter.
You're going to then have to consider its age and relevance to the subject matter.
Trying to say "You can just do a 30 minute Google search" is far from the truth. In 30 minutes, you will either have an understanding based on unverified information, or a laundry list of sources to review.
