Julian Edelman ethers Steve Young and Trent Dilfer

Julian Edelman dropped several pipe bombs Monday morning on ESPN on-air talent that he felt was slighting the Patriots or hating on Tom Brady.

Edelman had particularly strong words for Trent Dilfer first on WEEI, blasting the quarterback guru.

“[Dilfer] sits there and analyzes everything, but he needs to go and watch the film, and he can’t say anything now because we’re world champions,” Edelman, who had nine catches for 109 yards and the game-winning touchdown, told WEEI Radio in Boston. “We’re coming back home to Boston with the Lombardi Trophy, and he can take that and put that in his clips.”
“It’s embarrassing of him. It’s ridiculous,” Edelman continued. “We do the Patriot Way here, and we don’t talk. We really do ignore noise and stuff, but Coach [Bill] Belichick put that clip on where he said, ‘We don’t have a shot. This team’s not good enough.’ ”

Edelman then set his sights on the great Steve Young. Young was great once he got the opportunity to start — he was no Montana — Edelman let him know.

“He’s just mad because he can’t be Joe Montana,” said Edelman, a native of northern California. “I love Steve Young to death, but he’s the biggest hypocrite of all. He just keeps crapping on us. I was a Niners fan growing up. I loved Joe Montana to death — he was my childhood hero. Steve Young’s just mad because he couldn’t get more than one [ring].”

I love edelman's mean streak. You can rank receivers, top 10, top 5, whatever, edelman may not stack up well against other good receivers but there's not another guy I'd want in his position. He offers so much versatility. 4/yr is a steal

What did Steve Young say to tick him off? I don't watch much of the talking heads anymore but from what little I see SY always seems kind of reasonable and even handed..even when he criticizes.

And SY kind of short changed himself by going to the USFL and losing 3 year of his career or whatever it was, then he had to sit behind Montana. He was great though.

I will say though, I think all those guys have ESPN producers in their ear telling them to take stands and make good radio and TV. They're just trying to keep their jobs.

After the KC loss Young was saying Brady wasn't the problem and that the front office needed to give him some weapons to work with, my guess is Edelman took that as a shot at him and the rest of the receivers.

Steve young is one of the GOAT qbs and a hof. Edelman won't be a HOF so he better enjoy this moment right now.
