Is there a way to tell which it is without pulling the valve covers, first?

had an oil change and the next day I went to start the hoe and it wouldn't . made a clacking noise in engine area.

3.9L Lincoln V8 , hope to god I'm not fukked brehs . I suspect its the problematic plastic tensioners.

:why: He said 3.9 V8 Lincoln LS

Don't crank the engine anymore until you know what it is!!!!

You have to pull the valve covers to see what the problem is. Hopefully the plastic tensioner broke and didn't cause any other damage.

yeah i left my baby alone after the first time it wouldnt crank. getting parts today, hopefully mechanic will be ready by Monday. I hope that damn chain is just slack and I ain't bent no valves :mjcry:

Need more detail on what the noise is...

Don't make sense to talk about timing after an oil change.

A snapped chain would cause the same symptoms as a broken one, unless your engine is non interference in which it would just spin over when cranking with no noise.

I gotta do more research... I would actually check and see if you have oil in there. Sounds stupid but I've had people forget to put oil back in my car after draining it.

The Lincoln uses a destroked version of the AJ-V8 (Jaguar)... so you MIGHT be in luck if the belt snapped.

The AJ does have a bad rep for tensioners going bad... But usually they don't just go all at once.. The problem usually gradually onsets.

its a clattering noise, kinda like as if the chain is loose and rattling around or some shyt, sounded like a lawnmower or someshyt. wish I could've recorded the sound but I'm scared af to crank that hoe again.

oil checked and at the right level, shyt clean then a bytch too. I read that the engine is interference engine . timing chain kit with tensioners should be in today. ran me about 200$ , mechanic charging me 200$ to replace the chains. I hope baby get on her feet

Sounds like worn tensioners....That's a hell of a job. I would be weighing my options...:francis:

Take a quick look through this write-up. This is what you'll face.

Tmingi chain and tensioner replacement

It's possible to fix, just probably more than an 8 hour (by the book) job.

if the valve covers get popped and we can see its the secondary tensioners, do the front engine cover and primary chains still have to be fukked with?
seems like that's the longest part
