I heard Tariq say this on his Hidden Colors doc a while back and did minor research - albeit on bias black sites. Decided to reopen up this topic and study it further and found out its a myth. Got me looking at that Hidden Colors documentary kind of suspect now :patrice:

There's a lot more shaky evidence presented in the various documentaries.
The issue is that a lot of is wrapped up in real facts, so it becomes difficult to immediately parse the bullshyt from the gems.
I remember a bunch of the "conscious-but-doesn't-read-books" brigade started posting articles like that The Statue of Liberty Was Originally Black, The First United States President Was Originally Black, etc. and when I did bare-minimum research, I found most of that was untrue.
Keep researching, it does the brain good.

Technically the first US President, John Hanson, was indeed a black man. Technically.

I believe you're wrong. The original concept of the statue of "liberty" was a freed female slave with broken shackles. The primary artist, Labouley was an abolitionist who was planning to also erect statues in Egypt.

+ it was designed immediately after the civil war

Be blinded by Google brehs..
No. That first point is completely untrue, and not verified by a single source. Labouley wasn't the primary artist. Nor was he a sculpter. The third point is a time reference, the statue was intended to celebrate the Union victory and the end of slavery, but disconnected from the first two made up points, it doesn't constitute or substantiate any of the claims. Laboulaye wanted to erect a statue-lighthouse for the Suez, which was rejected.
