Just how lackluster is diversity in comics/art?

Decided to go into Midtown Comics (haven't been in one in the longest). I was floored at the lack of diverse stories being told. Even the toys/action figures were lacking (Cyborg was the only one unless you count aliens/monsters)

This is why we should support Black Sands Entertainment @pugnathemighty and the like, especially when this is geared toward the youth.

I know there are a lot of indy comics, designers and the like and we need to support them (quality must be met, of course). Drop a link to your favorite comic, artist, figure maker, etc (non-music). Doesn't all have to be superhero trope btw

Marvel has been better at this than DC lately. Even if we ignore @Black Panther , they got Storm, Dominican Spider-Man, blade, Luke cage, Falcon, and I think Fury was gonna get his own spin-off too.

I think the DC era of blackness ended with static shock. Although I really wish they would’ve embraced that black lantern instead of Hal Jordan.

Obviously, black representation ebbs and flows with time; however I think another issue might be the fan base. If we are being honest, the vast majority of comic fans are white men. From a business stand point pandering to us doesn’t make sense. I mean think about it. As a black person, if you go to a function and start talking about a superhero who wasn’t featured in a recent marvel movie, then you get blank stares or even get called corny. While I admit that there is certainly a black comic community, this medium has not been embraced by most black people. :yeshrug:

Props to the black sands brehs tho. Concept is great. :whoa:

DC brought back Milestone and John Stewart is the main Green Lantern right now.

Plus Jace Fox Batman, Aqualad, Black Manta, Naomi, Nubia, Shilo Norman all either have series right now or have ones coming up.

Right now is probably the most black representation DC's had in years, if not ever.

And I saw NONE of this at Midtown.

Funny, I was watching Young Justice and the Aquaman/kid is the son of Black Manta .... and gay like a mugg

So no, not enough diversity (of course, feminizing a man is always diverse for some business demographics)

Based on your one experience at one store? :what:

Of course you could never have 'enough' diversity, but just because you didn't know what to look for doesn't mean it's not there.

Sold 60,000 copies so far this year. Pretty much obliterating the competition.

Did you guys download the BSP Comics app on IOS or Driod

Damn bro if thats true go get yourself a deal at image comics. They let you keep your rights. You'd smash all their other books sales.

not many in the mainstream world
indie world is growing as you can see with black sands and other creators :yeshrug:
as for dc fukk them. they have vixen, mr.terrific, and john stewart.
Vixen Super-model, entrepreneur, and cool powerset from africa
Mr.Terrific, literally 6 certs coli breh
John Stewart enough said
they don't want to use them or they don't want to use them correctly
let's make mr.terrific gay and uncoordinated
let's make a vixen cartoon even though we gave arrow and the flash live action shows
no zack synder you can't have john stewart in the justice league we haven't had hal yet

They'd rather give us cyborg. a black man who lost most of his body and is a glorified ai system who can't fukk females :mjlol:

I'll give marvel points for trying in the recent years

DC brought back milestone, so far that shyt is pretty decent.

Most of the other shyt is pandering/black versions of white shyt. Now you're just gonna get gay black people so it ticks off boxes.

noirceasar has some decent stuff

hopefully this is done justice
Meridian Pictures Acquires ‘Buffalo Warrior’ Rights For Feature Film – Deadline

Noircaesar is going to have this problem where people won't consider their stuff comics and they won't consider them manga either. I actually really like what they are doing, but they are taking a tough road, and their marketing hasn't been as dominant as Black Sands crew (shout out).
