This your first Metal Gear solid breh?
that story is convoluted even to the most die hard of fans.
Yeah, it’s my first one. I never played the first 4 and now that I no longer have my PS3 I can’t play them unless I cop a Larrybox at some point. But yeah, it’s my first one.

big boss is naked snake

solid snake, liquid snake and solidus snake are clones of him

the mother of special forces is the boss (completely different character from big boss)
See this is what confused me because when I googled this dude all of these characters were the same dude with an eye-patch.

They aren’t the same person.
You’re going to have to watch some YouTube videos to begin to be even vaguely familiar with what’s going on. It’s a fun game with great graphics and mechanics, but I don’t think it’s worth the hassle for a person unfamiliar with the series to bother with it. The game was actually abandoned mid-development as well so the game ends on an unnecessary cliff hanger with no real resolution.

Yeah, I’m just gonna watch a walkthrough on Youtube.

So there’s no conclusion to the story? Also, is it one single story starting with the first game? I think I’ve seen Psycho Mantis in that opening seen from Phantom Pain, do I need to know his story? I’m asking because the lore seems cool as hell and I want to know as much as possible about this universe

The story is dope as hell albeit confusing.
The overall series has a conclusion, but metal gear solid v the phantom pain ends abruptly at the end of the second chapter. There was supposed to be a third chapter that connected the game to the rest of the series properly but they pulled the plug.

The metal gear solid on ps1 is goat level gameplay for its time, and the story telling along with the voice acting is legendary. Metal gear solid 2 introduced a ton of sci fi concepts and really sent the story off the rails. The gameplay in each entry into the series improved leaps and bounds each time. Kojima always did a great job pushing the boundaries with each new mgs game.

Metal gear solid V is a prequel.
If you were to play the games in order of the actual story it would go...
Metal Gear Solid 3
Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker
MGSV Ground Zero
MGSV The Phantom Pain
Metal Gear Solid
Metal Gear Solid 2
Metal Gear Solid 4
Metal Gear Rising Revengence (An unnecessary spin off within the same universe that takes place some time after everything).

solid was the 3d sequel to two 2d games called metal gear and metal gear 2. so there was still background story even back then :dead:

but most people started with mgs 1. mgs 5 is one of the games that takes place before it like mgs 3 and peace walker (you play as big boss in all the prequel games)

Portable Ops comes before Peace Walker (EDIT: nvm I guess Kojima says it's not canon even though its mentioned in Peace Walker)

Sucks that MGSV got so repetitive because it had the best gameplay of the series
