The official Chaplain of the Coli
I'll give between a high "it's straight" and a "low good". Of course De Niro did his thing. The plot pretty siimple and you can figure it out from the trailers. De Niro plays this snitch niguh who's on the run from "the family". His character is this tough guy who doesn't take disrespect. And shows people who is boss. But at the same time, his past haunts him because he wants to tell his story. And not die just being known as 1 dimensional. So his character has depth.
Michelle Phipher. Looks
bruh. Don't know why they didn't put make up to cover up those wrinkles. At least try to fool me she looks sorta like she did on "Dangerous Minds". She's does a good job as wife/mom. With this religious Catholic side which doesn't allow cussing (sorta). But at the same time has this "mafia" vibe. Which of course is different from most films (b/c it's satire) because it's usually just the men who gangsta acting. Not their family.
John D'Leo who plays the son. Is real good. This dude acts just like a mafia dude except he's in high school. So he uses his street skills to run the school sorta like you run the streets. He act liked his father when he was older.
Dianna Agron plays their daughter. She has a gangsta side and explodes when threatened. But she also a girl and who looks for love. And finds it with someone in her school
Tommy Lee Jones plays the head of the FBI agents who protect him in France. Excellent acting as always.
Basics: Movie is like 40% comedy and 60% serious and action. Comedy wise, it was funny at times. But I only lol like 5 times. There were some past De Niro, movie references (Martin S. was executive producer so you can imagine which movies). The gangsta, satirical stuff is shocking, funny at 1st. But to me, it kinda became an old bit. I personally enjoyed getting into the characters more.
Negatives: The French accents were terrible. I never really felt like they were in France. Maybe because France is influenced by American culture (which the movie claims. Not sure to what extent). But honestly, all the French people acted no different then Americans. 2ndly, never bought that De Niro could be the parent of those young kids. Grandfather yeah, but that dude like 70. And looks 70. Him having kids that young. Nah.
The way they were discovered was pretty lazy. Could have come up with a more clever way to do it.
Killings in this move was straight. Not bad. Some were kinda gangsta with it.
Ending: I won't tell what happens but I will say that the comedy ends. And for the last 15 minutes it turns into a more "gangsta" film. Not anything classic but I did enjoy the change of pace.
Overall there were some good things. But the France plot could have been better. It felt no different then being in America.
P.S. for the
fans, "Herc" plays a FBI agent.
