He was dope but he really couldn't craft good solo songs consistently. He needed direction in that area and didn't have any even with Wyclef. I also think he's the type that even if he had that person in his corner he wouldn't listen to them.

i forgot how good he could rap.

There’s this clip online that I came across… it’s Cannibus. Mos Def, DMX, Big Pun and a few other rappers all rhyming and Cannibus was arguably the best one there … crazy talent.

To be honest though that LL beef made him seem corny so I never listened to him like I should have.

He needed a great producer to make a hit song for him. It would’ve made me and a lot more people pay attention.
that clip makes me so mad. i havent seen it in a minute but i remember canibus was making a huge deal about how since he was the best one there :heh: he should go last or first.. i dont remember. i just remember the ARROGANCE. and big pun respitting that dream shatterer verse :pachaha:

I disagree that ll cool j ended canibus. Being there back then, ll did smack him in the head on 4.3.2.1 but 2nd rd k.o is still today considered one of the best diss tracks ever (even with the questionable lines lol) and canibus buzz was still there. The problem with canibus is there was already a stigma on battle rappers/underground rappers doing poorly on making music and when canibus album wasn't good it further supported that stigma. He tried to just blame wyclef instead of looking at himself and recognizing he just didnt do well with creating music. 2000 b.c was a much better album but again nothing special came off that album. What killed canibus was his inability to carry his lyricism into radio success. Eminem, Cassidy and to some extent papoose fabulous, Lloyd banks etc were successfully able to do that go from underground kings to mainstream success canibus just couldn't.

Yep there was a story about how Canibus was upstairs at some show freestyling on the air and Big Pun was trying to get upstairs. Friendly competition. Bis is nice but it's like it's not in him anymore. Still dope nonetheless

canibus has never been able to take responsibility for his failures. the notepad video illustrates this perfectly. he actually thought his lyrics were so good that he could read them off the page in the middle of a fukking rap battle. the guys a fukking space cadet. i feel sorry for all the rats and roaches that have to hear canibus softly freestyle to himself while he crawls through the air ducts.
