Source, Just a game of baseball?

For this topic we have two iconic hip hop songs that exudes the excellence of metaphorical rap.

Common

On one hand you have Common “ I use to love her” which went into a romantic simulation of a girl going through changes and equating these female changes to the commercialization of the hip hop game.

Sample lyric

Now periodically I would see
Old girl at the clubs, and at the house parties
She didn't have a body but she started getting thick quick
Did a couple of videos and became Afrocentric
Out goes the weave, in goes the braids beads medallions
She was on that tip about stopping the violence
About my people she was teaching me
By not preaching to me, but speaking to me in a method that was leisurely
So easily I approach
She dug my rap, that's how we got close
But then she broke to the West coast, and that was cool
Cause around the same time, I went away to school
And I'm a man of expanding, so why should I stand in her way
She probably get her money in L.A
And she did stud, she got big pub but what was foul
She said that the pro-black, was going out of style
She said, Afrocentricity, was of the past
So she got into R&B hip-house bass and jazz
Now black music is black music and it's all good
I wasn't salty, she was with the boys in the hood
Cause that was good for her, she was becoming well rounded
I thought it was dope how she was on that freestyle shyt
Just having fun, not worried about anyone
And you could tell by how her titties hung”

On this side we have Main Source iconic song “ Just a game of baseball”. This universal hit projects the destructive nature of police brutality to the exuberant sport of baseball.

Sample lyric

“R.B.I. -- real bad injury
But don't get happy you're in jail for a century
Just as bad as bein shot in the groin
To see who'll shoot ya, they'll flip a coin
And watch him run for the stretch
But you don't know the man is at home waitin to make the catch
So the outfielder guns you down
You're out, off to the dugout, underground
I know a cop that's savage, his pockets stay green like cabbage
Cause he has a good batting average
No questions, just pulls out the flamer
[blam] And his excuses get lamer
Once a brother tried to take a leave
But they shot him in his face sayin he was tryin to steal a base
And people watch the news for coverage on the game
Hmm, and got the nerve to complain
They need to get themselves a front row seat
Or sink a baseline for a beat
Cause television just ain't designed for precision y'all
It's just a friendly game of baseball

:ld: Which one you going with, and why?

Very tough....But Imma go with Common, I like the parallel between the life stages of the Sista to the evolution and commercialization of Hip Hop and its uncertain future of its roots...Common just illustrated that shyt too well :mjcry:

Friendly game of baseball is relevant today. I am a Common fan but he became an actor & changed styles just like hip hop did in the song.

It's a tough call as I think Friendly Game of Baseball is mad underrated. But Common really told a beautiful story further punctuated by the great production. Both songs are still relevant though.
