Yvette did an interview with the woman's father and played the 911 call tapes of her parents and witnesses. The police treated Richardson's mother and father like shyt. Long story short, Mitrice Richardson had a mental breakdown and was arrested by the police. The police let her go and the woman was found dead. Kamala Harris refused to charge the police department. Mitrice disappearance was treated as a murder investigation.

Death of Mitrice Richardson - Wikipedia
On the evening of September 16, 2009, Richardson entered the parking lot of Geoffrey's restaurant in Malibu. Due to what staff and patrons at the restaurant described as "bizarre" behavior and the fact that she was unable to pay her $89 bill, the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department from the Malibu/Lost Hills Station was called to assess her condition.[8] The officers on the scene purportedly administered a field sobriety test and determined that she was not intoxicated and not under the influence of any substance. She was arrested on charges of "suspicion of not paying for the meal" and possession of less than an ounce of marijuana.[9][5][10]

According to the arresting officers, upon her arrest, her phone, purse and money were secured in her car and her car was towed to a tow yard on the Pacific Coast Highway. Richardson was detained and booked at the Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff's Station approximately ten miles up Malibu Canyon.

Although Richardson's mother informed the station of concern for her daughter's mental health, and despite promises from the station personnel that she would not be released until later in the morning, Richardson was released on September 17, 2009, at 12:28 AM with no belongings and no means of calling for assistance. Steve Whitmore, spokesman for the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, said Richardson was released from jail because "She exhibited no signs of mental illness or intoxication. She was fine. She's an adult."[9]

Attorney general's probe finds no evidence of wrongdoing by deputies in death of Mitrice Richardson

Her family has also blasted deputies for mishandling her remains. Coroner's officials said deputies moved her body parts without permission, and months later, Richardson's mother was visiting the site and found a finger bone that belonged to her daughter.

The office of then-Atty. Gen. Kamala Harris balked at reviewing the case in 2015, saying there was "no reasonable inference" that deputies broke the law. But months later, in February 2016, the case appeared to gain new momentum after Harris agreed to review the matter at the request of Richardson's father, Michael Richardson.

That yearlong inquiry appears to have revealed no evidence of wrongdoing. A Dec. 31 letter from the attorney general's office to Richardson's father, which was released to The Times, briefly outlines why "there is insufficient evidence to support a criminal prosecution for destruction, alteration or concealment of evidence."
