Is race dysphoria a thing? I think this, or something like it, is what happens when you are so close to all of the hallmarks of a particular race, but can't actually make the transition. Kanye is so wealthy and has rubbed shoulders with so many influential, rich, white people. He has also built a career off of having entire crowds of white people yell the n-word back at him. I'm sure there is some link between the money he has acquired and the way in which he has acquired it that causes a lot of chaos. This is a black man who a lot of white men enjoy and respect, but he will always be a black man in a world controlled by whites. He will never make that transition. I'm sure a lot of successful black men, and maybe even black women, have felt similar to Kanye, but, for Kanye, the feeling is probably much more extreme because of how successful he is. What we are watching, I think, is the intertwining of race, wealth and class and the effects that it can have on the black human psyche.

Kanye's a megalomaniac and that alone - like with Trump - forms the foundation of his identity and the problems that arise from it. There are Black men with higher net worths and power than him like Byron Allen who aspired to and attained extraordinary wealth without having to compromise his integrity/pride in being a Black man (and also continues to help and partner with Black businesses and institutions such as HBCUs). Kanye could have chosen to go in that direction but instead took the tap dancing "slavery was a choice" route ironically so he could play the role of a servant to the white man instead of being his own man and master.
