I remember hearing Spaceship for the first time after leaving work (Chick Fil A) back when I was in HS....I couldn't get past that song for at least an hr.

the only album that I can literally remember the moment I first heard it. I was in high school on the black top at lunch. My nikka Brandon gave me the cd, cysed as fukk. He played me All Falls Down and Spaceship. Talk about breath of fresh air. He copied the shyt for me and I played the film off that bytch. Bought it a few times since. It was the first time I was able to actual relate to a rap album. Everything played extremes back then (at least the shyt I was exposed to). You either was super thug/hustler/pimp/drug dealer or super backpack. He just seemed like himself as opposed to a rap caricature and the songs knocked. Perfect combo. Definitely birthed these new nikkas for better or worse, as far as just being yourself. imo of course.

Somewhere in Chicago
When it first hit, I was in 7th grade and couldn't really "get it" so to speak, plus I was entering my cringey "I hate rap" phase and the song slow jams being played non-stop didn't help either.

Wasn't until three summers ago it all clicked for me.

I was unemployed, spending days riding around with my friend, scraping to get $1 to buy big drinks from Speedway trying to pawn shytty music equipment for money and hoping I was gonna get unemployment when we were listening to it, We Don't Care comes on.

Cuz this summer they aint finna to say next summer im finna
Sittin in the hood like community colleges
This dope money here is Lil Treys scholarship
Cause aint no to tuition for havin no ambition
And aint no loans for sittin your ass at home

So we forced to sell crack rap and get a job
You gotta do something man your ass is grown

Them lines cut deep. I was close to giving up on a lot of things, my passion for creativity etc. but being surrounded by creative and inspiring people (who pushed me) made me keep moving forward to where I am now. Crazy looking back how that was the time I was just getting into music heavy, and actually valuing it and appreciating it, attending lives shows and supporting local artist and not just listening to music to morph an image for myself , it's worked out for the better.

:obama:I still remember the following year working nights at my shytty housekeeping job bumping spaceship on the way to work...so damn fitting.
