If all you do is look at box scores and watch highlights you might think this thread is crazy. But if you watch the Wolves nightly like I do then you know what I'm talking about. There are many other reasons for the Wolves struggles. Most significantly their lack of a rim protector on defense. But this problem with Karl-Anthony Towns needs to be addressed as well.

I know all NBA players wanna get their numbers, but I've never seen a star player more obsessed with getting his numbers to the detriment of the team than Karl-Anthony Towns. For such a great young player he can be so frustrating to watch. Let me start with the elephant in the room. His obsession with grabbing rebounds to the detriment of his team's defense. I can't count how many times last night he tried to cheat off his man to try and crash the boards early. Sure he grabbed 22 rebounds but he left Ryan Anderson open so many times on switches cause he would rather grab the potential rebound than challenge an open 3-pointer that is must have cost the Wolves at least 9-12 points. Against teams like the Rockets that have everyone along the 3-point line, grabbing defensive rebounds isn't a priority. Staying with your man and limiting open looks is. His effort last night on defense was embarrassing. Its also embrassing to see him and Dieng fight for boards against each other. You'll be surprised how often this happens if you watch them play regularly.

Now to his offense. Dude is the epitome of a black hole when he gets the ball. If he touches the ball on offense, he's taking a shot 95% of the time. Doesn't matter if he's double or triple teamed. This consistently leads to turnovers and offensive fouls early in games that stagnates Minnesota's offense. The box scores watchers will say "hey he averages 3 assists per game, he's not a black hole on offense." My response "watch the games." Last night he didn't pass the ball once until it got to the 4th quarter and he already had 30 points. Then he realized he needed to get some assists so he started making passes designated to get his 3 assists per game. If all you did was saw the box score at the end of the game you would think Towns was trying to find his teammates more than Wiggins who ended with only 2 assists. Well you would be wrong. Wiggins created so many open shots last night for his teammates that if they hit those open looks he would probably have had 7 assists. Wiggins typically plays a very unselfish game and always looks for the open man when doubled (which is happening more and more now). Compare that to Towns who basically premeditates when he passes and when he doesn't.

Wolves have other flaws but man until Towns learns to let the game and stats come to him rather than chasing them, Minnesota will continue to struggle. He's too talented to be chasing stats like this.

Now who else wanna fukk with Hollywood Court?
His offense isn't the problem for the Wolves, they could survive him being a black hole on offense if his defense wasn't so bad. You're focused on how he's taking away shots from Andrew, when you should be focused on the miserable job he's done all year of protecting the paint, the advanced stats paint him out to be the worst defensive C in the league right now and nobody talks about it. All the shyt Jahlil Okafor gets for his defense and Towns has been worse than him.

I don't care about his shot attempts he's good enough. My problem with this dude is his defense, dumb turnovers and not keeping his ass in the paint. If I see this dude take more than 1 3 in a game again I might just lose it.

A lot of that bad defense is cause he's chasing rebounds rather than just playing fundamental defense.

Plus I don't expect him to be a rim protector. He's a PF masquerading as a center. Wolves are just a stupid organization for not pairing him with a defensive minded center like DeAndre Jordan.

They need to move him to PF and get a true rim protector in the worst way.

Or maybe Wiggins isn't as good as you think.

No. He's as good as I think he is. He's just not a killer. He's passive and not hyper competitive.

If he had Kobe or MJ's mentality he would be already a top 5 player in the NBA. His skill level and athletic ability is insane. He just lacks the insatiable desire to dominate every opponent like Kobe or MJ

Talent wise he's on their level.

Is KAT even 22 yet? Plenty of time for him to work out these 'flaws" that cats are talking about. With good health this guy will be making noise for the next 10 plus years and anyone who doesn't like it just has to deal with it. No way someone this good this young wont be a dominant successful player as long as his wheels hold up.

Nah, that isn't just a result of chasing rebounds, he has been awful defensively in pretty much every facet of defense

He's literally the worst center in the league on defense right now and his rim protection numbers themselves aren't that bad, it's his team defense that is horrific. He needs to be a PF, but they are going to need to find an elite C that is mobile and those don't grow on trees.

Lot of truth to the post tbh. I've seen Karl get mad at Dieng for taking one of his rebounds. He loves his stats but needs to learn to move the Ball especially when he's being doubled. However Wiggins needs to learn when to dish it too. Also needs to learn when to not call for a screen. And he needs to stop passing it to Rubio on the perimeter. shyt is like 2k when you drive and dish it to the man wide at the 3 then you realize it's your center :mjlol:. Drew would be averaging 3 assists per game is Rubio was an average shooter. But both these players are young and we gotta give them time to really mesh and trust each other

All that defense talk is the reason he went first instead of Okafor :laff:

I don't know if it was just college competition or Calipari screaming at him, but I am a little surprised at how bad his defense has been.
