Hal Smith Restaurants announced on Monday that Kd's Southern Cuisine, located in Bricktown in Oklahoma City, will close. But the restaurant will reopen under a new concept.

Scheduled to reopen shortly after Labor Day, the concept will offer an updated atmosphere with a similar menu to what has been available at that location in the past, according to a news release by Hal Smith Restaurants.

“It has been an honor – and a lot of fun – to partner with Kevin Durant at Kd's these last few years,” said Hal Smith, founder and CEO of the Oklahoma-based restaurant group. “We wish him the very best as he takes a new direction in his career.”

The restaurant was closed on Sunday, and the company is working to make a number of updates and improvements to the space before reopening under a new name.

The new name and details of the concept will be announced in August. Smith said there will be a fresh take on some elements of the dining experience, but the essence of the restaurant's menu will be upheld.

“Our restaurant has become a tradition for many in our community for an evening out or to celebrate a special occasion, which is an honor we don’t take lightly. We know our guests, we listen to them, and we think they’ll be really pleased with this transition,” said Smith. “We plan to maintain the majority of our current menu, and there's no doubt our famous fried chicken and other favorites will be back.”

Smith said employees are being offered the opportunity to maintain their positions during this transition with pay.

Maybe they should just name it after the team and license player's names for dishes or specials, that way they don't have to worry about this happening again.
The team would probably be against that. The team wouldn't want to be liable for whatever happens there if they have no control over the place. Plus teams don't open up restaurants.

They could just call it THunder Southern Cusine, pay the team some money for license fee to use their logo and it be all good, or just go the generic Thunder route and have a basketball under it with licensed players faces around.

Repped. That's a good ass idea. Did you take marketing in school?

Same thing happened with this restaurant in St. Louis called Pujols 5. I used to frequent that spot when I lived around the corner. When Pujols left to the Angels they just changed the name but the menu and all that was the same. These celebrities are usually just a name for the restaurant to market their business.
