Seems like there is a lot of naivety a being exhibited during this election season which can probably be explained by the fact a lot of posters are new to the political process. Some posters are really young, but very thoughtful and make great contributions so i'm not trying to stereotype.

I'll give my background. I'm an old head :old: so the the first election I voted in was the 2000 election and I voted for Gore. But at that time, Like most Americans, I was more or less a casual follower of politics.

I didn't really start following politics seriously until the the beginning of the Iraq War. My deepening interest in politics had a lot to do with my hatred for George Bush and my opposition to the Iraq War.

2008 is the first time I ever contributed to or volunteered for any campaign. Same in 2012.

And here we are..... What say you? and Keep it a buck.

I was born into a family that was always into politics. As a kid I got more into the personalities. I liked John McCain as much as Al Gore in 2000. But that was just from reading newspaper articles as a kid. I had this sense of "both sides have good ideas" that came from my more nonchalant natural disposition. I never came hard at anyone. In 2003, I literally didn't really know how I felt about the Iraq War. By 2006, I was clearly left-leaning but still thought "moderate republicans" were decent people. I excused the Dems for not going too far because of the right and because of cultural politics. When Obama took over in 2008, I legitimately thought that our foreign policy and domestic policy would change. I gave up all pretenses of liking "moderate republicans." After working in DC and experiencing the midterm elections and following the Obama administration, I was moved even farther to the left. I no longer apologize for the Dems inaction. In 2014, I literally wrote in Tom Brady for my governor vote--that's how much I detested Dems. At this point, I think I'm going to be a registered independent for my entire adult life--I was unable to vote for Bernie in the primary because of it--and I'll always vote for progressive candidates only.

That's the short version without going into specifics. So yeah, in my mid-20s I can say that I've followed every election closely since the Kerry/Bush election. So this is my fourth cycle, but only my third presidential vote.

First election I voted in was kerry v bush.

But I had an interest in history, politics, and just the news since I was in middle school. I used to read the new york times in highschool homeroom lol in the morning.

Three or four but I consider myself a student of history and the proliferation of alternative and social media outlets and participation has totally changed the game.

First election I followed was Clinton vs Bob Dole 1996. I was a huge Clinton guy back then but I was also like 10 years old. Lost my faith in the Democratic Party after his 2nd term and became independent. Wanted Gore to beat Bush in 2000 and thought it was bullshyt how Bush stole the election; I was entering high school at the time. When I graduated high school, I started leaning more to the left. I voted for Bush for his 2nd term. Voted for McCain (hated his Palin pick) and then voted Mitt in the last election. Pretty sick of both parties so I'm gonna stay independent with a left lean on fiscal, and a slightly right lean on social issues.

Basically this, minus the volunteer time.
