I always knew intuitively I leaned toward the Democratic party's side even as a little kid. The first election I paid close attention to was 2000. I voted for Nader. My views have been consistently to the left of the Democratic party ever since then.

First election I paid attention to was Bush vs. Gore (though I wasn't old enough to vote yet) and the first I voted in was Bush vs. Kerry ( :francis: ).

The first I have any kind of memory of was Bush vs Dukakis ('88(!!)) when I was like 8, 9 years old; but I what I remember most was it being a big deal that Jesse was running that year.

I remember my Mom and I watching Bill win in the early 90's, when I was maybe 7 or so, the late 90's was defined politically by SNL skits, of which I thought were often hilarious, but didn't always understand the full nuances.....I'd say the first one I remember, and invested, at a very minor level, as far as attention was 2004, by then anti Bush sentiment was in full swing, as the Iraq war burned overseas,...I followed as much as I could as an 18 year old running in the street, but I managed to catch a debate or two, and follow the election process somewhat......I remember smoking a blunt, drinking shots and arguing with a girl friend whom I was crazy about, just endorsing all this right wing bullshyt, and I was legit disgusted. The Eminem video 'Mosh' played all the fukking time, back when anyone cared about videos or MTV. All of us sitting around smoking watching it. I think Puff had rock the vote too. Kerry's big story was the longboat? Shoreboat? One of those.

It wasn't until 08 and 12, that I really paid more attention, and I'm still not as informed as many, including many here, but way more politically aware then many of my friends from childhood, for which I am grateful, cuz some of them are legit stupid as fukk when it comes to that.

I remember my mom and dad wanting bush to win in 00 :heh:

Im Canadian though so it was probably because of what Lieberman was saying about Palestine :ld:

I seriously followed the 04 election because I wanted Bush to win. I was a confused ass kid. I thought the Iraq war was a good look :manny:

I'm 26 so the first election I really paid attention to was Bush-Gore in 2000. I was in 6th grade and remember election night and the day after so clearly. So much conflicting news about who won.. I remember my pops voted for Bush cause he hated that Gore picked Liebrman to be his VP.

Then in 2004, I started paying attention more... legit thought Kerry would win despite the attacks Dubya put out and then after that I got involved with a couple of local races before my senior year of high school in the summer of 2006. A family friend ran for the MD House of Delegates, he's Somali, served in the Marines, but just couldn't get the seat... another Muslim guy of Pakistani origin won a delegate seat and served from 2007-2011.

I remember in 2006 when Oprah urged Obama to run on her show and I thought there's no way, dude just won a Senate seat.

In 2007, I was thinking Hillary would easily get the nomination.. didn't think Edwards, Obama, Biden, Kucinich, etc had a prayer's chance of beating her. Turned 18 years old that year, registered to vote before the primaries began. Obama won Iowa and then I really started to believe. First cycle being able to vote, I went to the Obama rallies in Maryland and on campus at UMD he came in March 2008. Was so electric... I really thought America was going to change after the Bush era and there'd be sweeping reforms with someone like Obama at the top of the ticket and Democratic control of both houses of Congress.

The financial crisis happened right as Sophmore year of college started, it basically was a wrap for Obama after that.

His first two years I was glad the stimulus was passed (though it should have been bigger), thought immigration would have been done but wasn't... the ACA passed which has helped a lot of people but it's underwhelmed with things like premiums..

Voted in 2010... was shocked how empty polling places were just two years after Obama-mania. Basically ended any remaining legislative goals for Obama right there and then.

Then in 2012, I really started to read more about money in politics, the rich ruling class and how they basically write the rules forever, buy the politicians... the source of the Tea Party, etc..

Voted in 2012 again, wasnt enthusiastic really as I was thinking that my vote doesn't really matter... as the Masters of the Universe basically play us like damn fiddles. :manny:

Voted in 2014 since Maryland had a Governor's race. Voted for corny Anthony Brown... was shocked he lost but then again, black folk in the wealthiest black county in America were saying this fool is whack.

Last year and till now, Bernie's run inspired me and he's right that the only way things really will change is if people mobilize and get involved in the process. It's damn hard and the ruling class can only tolerate populism and common sense social democratic policies to a point in America.... until they lose their leverage in power. That unfortunately might only occur if another crisis happens and they don't get bailed out... AND political attitudes about collectivism change.
