Before you knew enough about her to form an opinion...all you had to go off was the early shyt. Selena, Money Train, U-Turn etc

Then this guy Puffy put out the Mami Fever anthem

Could have imagined if Puffy put out a video for this? Crazy Times...fast forward a couple of years it seemed like half the nikkax on Migente was black :russ:

Eventually things settled down and nikkax came back home...Some however got dual citizenship up in Dykman

Most nikkax go through a Mami Phase

I mean
That shyt was pushed heavy on the airwaves
Both TV/Radio
Couldn’t escape it growing up in Houston
I’ll even keep it a buck
Sofia Vergara was the first “Latina”
To catch my eye outside of Selena
She had a traveling show on Telemundo
Fuera de Serie
Followed by Ritmo Latino
It was a latin “Soul Train”
And really before JLo was Jessica Alba for me
Idle Hands
IYKYK :wow:
Then Jlo wore that Versace dress
And shyt changed:mjgrin:
Then I dated two latinas in college
Very brief and never again:hubie:
But the one thing I miss and can’t really find anymore
TSU Radio on Saturday night
Played Latin Jazz:ohlawd:
That some amazing shyt:whew:

I never saw the hype around Jennifer Lopez. Ever.

She was at her peak attractiveness to me in Money Train.

But she never had the sex appeal that even a Rosie Perez or Salma Hayek had.

She's a manufactured "icon".

I remember when she was cast as Selena, nobody could understand that decision. She didn't have anything close to the body Selena had, couldn't sing (and still can't) and couldn't act.

True.

But I just remember the question J-Lo or Janet being the go to which bad bytch would you take in pop culture back then. I personally thought Halle was the baddest but she didn't get mentioned as much as Janet and J-Lo in black culture.
I don't know any black man that didn't have Halle's name in their mouth in the 90s. If we're going to be honest we really wasn't checking for Jlo until Diddy's "Been Around the World" video. Another person ya'll are sleeping on is Lela Rochon, she looks terrible now but she was a dime in the 90s.
