On the heels of the news on 50 Cent filing for bankruptcy, it has been reported by Bossip that Kendrick Lamar has been sued over the artwork for "The Blacker The Berry," a single from his sophomore album To Pimp a Butterfly. Giordano Cipriani, the man who took the photo in the track's artwork, claims that his work was used without permission. The suit, which was filed on July 10, names Top Dawg Entertainment, Interscope and Aftermath as defendants, and seeks damages of $150,000 for every time the photograph was used. In addition, he also wants Kendrick to pay his legal fees.

my boy Kenny about to file chapter 11 too :mjcry:

This can't be Kendrick's fault?

Dude is not a damn lawyer, I never understood how that shyt worked.
I mean with samples, if the artist doesn't inform the label about his use of samples (see Timbo), then I understand or if it's some mixtape shyt where you assume that you don't have to clear (see Frank Ocean and Mac Miller). But art covers for official first singles? That's the labels job.. UMG/TDE/Aftemath/Interscope should handle this shyt.

Cats are not signed to like 5 labels for fun.

How does stuff like this happen? No one thought it would be a good idea to ask permission before using someone else's work? :why:

Some low level probably presented it, and didn't say anything about how he got it.
