Interesting how different countries react to different American songs. King Kunta was a radio hit in the UK and Australia whereas in the US it got little to no radio play. Reminds me of how most of Jimi Hendrix's biggest songs were smash hits in the UK but he got little to no airplay in the US.

I think sound plays a key part, too. Like I can see King Kunta being big there because of sonics while Alright is bigger here because of message.

I would love to read an analysis on overseas rap markets tbh, because it's so different. First noticed that with legacy acts being able to sell out tours easily there vs here. Or even when it comes to breaking a new artist if they had widespread appeal. Saw that with some SoundCloud rappers where somewhere in East balkniks or whatever is more viable than a small tour here

Hip hop shows are doing very well overseas, but doing this alone is something only Eminem in his prime has done :ehh:

I remember being in Sydney when TPAB dropped and "King Kunta" was ringing off at a number of spots I went too. Song went absolutely nuts when I saw him during the "Damn" tour as well.
