I’m so excited for this game. My head says we lose, but my heart says that St. Nick and the Eagles are going on another run. I choose to believe in the latter. And if the Eagles do manage to go into the Superdome and win, they’ll instantly be the favorites to represent the NFC. I don’t think any other team in the league is as dangerous as New Orleans is (except the Colts). Philadelphia’s biggest problem is going to be the Saints’ offense. Our defense has improved dramatically. I think Jernigan coming back has given the D-Line a boost these last couple weeks, and the secondary isn’t the dumpster fire it was back around Week 11 and Sidney Jones coming back should help even further, but I just don’t see them being able to limit Brees, Thomas, and Kamara. Ted Ginn coming back doesn’t help things, either. The Saints’ offense is too good, especially when they’re playing at home, and I don’t have much faith in our defense to contain them. The Bears nearly beat us last week because our CBs could not cover Allen Robinson and Trubisky was able to exploit the mismatch. Brees and Thomas are much better than Trubisky and Robinson. They’re going to put up yards and move the ball. One thing that might work in the Eagles defense’s favor is that the Saints’ offensive line is banged up. Maybe our D-Line, which has been playing its best football lately, has a monster game and we get pressure on Brees that way. But I’m not counting on it. If the Eagles win this game, it’s going to have to be in a SBLII-style shootout. And I actually do believe the offense can make that happen. Unlike in the Week 11 game, the offensive line is playing its best football right now, Lane and Kelce are healthy and JP is playing so much better. If they could pass protect against the Chicago Bears, they can do so against the New Orleans Saints. I do expect the Saints to shut down the run game, but our only effective RB is Darren Sproles. Even if NO wasn’t one of the top run defenses in the league, I wouldn’t have much faith in Wendell Smallwood and Josh Adams, anyway. The Texans shut down the run game, too, and the Eagles managed to produce regardless. We’ll need Nick Foles, Zach Ertz, Alshon Jeffery, Nelson Agholor, Dallas Goedert, Golden Tate, and Mike Wallace (if he’s playing) to have huge games. We’ll need Doug Pederson and Mike Groh to coach the game of their lives. The Saints have a low-ranked pass defense and I don’t really fear any of their DBs outside of Lattimore. In Week 11, Carson Wentz had the worst game of his career and threw three INTs. That’s not happening again. They should be able to find mismatches and produce. And if Wallace is actually playing, that finally gives the Eagles a credible deep threat that should open up the field even more. It’s the only way we win, IMO, outside of a miracle performance from the defensive line and secondary. Another thing that could work in Philadelphia’s favor is that, as we’ve seen with the Ravens and Chargers, it’s hard to beat the same team twice. The Week 11 game was a perfect storm of events for New Orleans that's not likely to happen again. I don’t know if the Eagles win, and I can’t argue with betting against them, but I do think it’s going to be a different game and I really feel like we might just steal this one.
