Jay had love for KRS and viewed him as 1 of the greatest of all time, so why would he diss him? Was probably paying tribute. And Nelly dissed first, Nelly did a record, KRS did a record that Nelly thought was about him that wasn't, KRS even let it be known it wasn't but Nelly still went on TV and dissed KRS, then KRS dissed him, that's how the battle started.
