They probably just want them to take the money and wear the shoes. Nike isn't interested in their design ideas like that.

His line is pretty bad, I'm not surprised that Nike doesn't work too closely with players on aesthetics.
I'm not sure how common it is in the industry for designers to work hand in hand with athletes beyond maybe cushioning and construction preferences - even then seems like the company would just tell them how their shoes sits in the hierarchy / price structure and what is available to them.

Kyrie has had a few down years in his line but "pretty bad" is simply not true.
Which is pretty stupid IMO. I'm sure most of them aren't design afficionados but their name is on the sneaker.
This is why LeBron wears older models a lot. Nike doesn't realize they are shooting themselves in their own foot.
