Let me start by saying that not all Black/Mexican gangs beef. Some do beef, but not all beefs are racally motivated.
As for prison, yeah it is racially motivated, but I think it stems from each group wanting power.
Each racial group want control over & contraband coming in/out the prison along with wanting to take control over certain areas in the yard and a host of other things that goes on in the prison.
Now, some people say that some Black/Mexican beefs allegedly started by some Black gang members used to bully, assault and harm Mexicans. Mexicans eventually banded together to combat this alleged abuse from Black gang members.
Others contend that Mexicans started to move in Black areas and the demographic change along with cultural differences created beefs.
However, there are Black & Mexican hoods that share the same territory and co-exist peacefully. Sometimes that peace stems from having the same enemies. Others may be from growing up together.
It just depends on the city, area, and the era also plays a part in it as well. How it was back in the 70s-90s was different from the 2000s-today.
