I didn't even know this happened and I live in LA. Ridiculous that I have to log onto an Iranian website to get my local news about Los Angeles.

Sanders supporters hold a demo outside CNN HQ in LA on Sunday over media 'blackout' against the Democratic hopeful.

Supporters of US Democratic presidential hopeful Bernie Sanders have staged a rally in Los Angeles to protest against what they call mainstream media blackout on the Vermont senator.

An estimated 2,000 demonstrators lined both sides of Sunset Boulevard in Hollywood Sunday outside of the CNN building's Los Angeles bureau to protest the network's political coverage of Sanders.

Sanders supporters said the Cable News Network and other US media covered Republican frontrunner Donald Trump's campaign extensively, while ignoring issues the Democratic hopeful has been focusing on.

"I think a lot of candidates have been treated unfairly, but I think some have been obviously favored," said a Sanders supporter. "(Like) Trump and Hillary. Those are really the two that everyone's hearing about. People are hearing about Bernie but they don't understand what he's about."

Another Sanders supporter said, "Now, CNN spends 90 percent of the time covering Trump, and there are so many issues other than Trump arguing or bickering with people."

LA police presence was felt around the peaceful protest and there was no report of arrests.

Sanders, whose campaign was recently boosted by landslide victories in Alaska, Washington and Hawaii, is hoping to cut further into rival Democrat Clinton’s lead in upcoming election primaries in the country.

The 74-year-old politician believes his victories show he can not only win the Democratic nomination, but also succeed in the November presidential election against the Republican nominee.

Sanders has long been critical of US foreign policy and was an early opponent of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Clinton, however, tends to be more inclined towards the use of military force overseas.

Sanders is also a leading proponent of issues such as income inequality, universal healthcare, parental leave, climate change, and campaign finance reform in the US.
