Iceberg Slim is back, life story told through rap
..... actin' like I sold you [that]
Like I told you sell ....., no Slim did that
So hopefully you wouldn't have to go through that

:aicmon:

It was life lessons in them books. Things about street life that were explained in great detail to help young people coming up in the streets recognize and avoid becoming prey to the wolves.

As a young girl, some of these were things that were unspeakable for most parents to discuss. But by my parents owning these books and having them in the house, I picked up street smarts at a young age. I learned to recognize game and setups.

I learned about a lot of stuff that I didn't have to experience.

At no point after reading Iceberg Slim did I ever want to be a pimp, hoe, con or a mark. At no point did I think that shyt was cute. :dahell: I never felt like he made that lifestyle appealing.

Game is to be sold and not to be told.

I'm glad I read his books.

Just like I'm glad I read James Baldwin, Richard Wright, Malcolm X, Claude Brown (Manchild in the Promised Land), Sam Greenlee (The Spook Who Sat by the Door), Eldrige Cleaver, Bobby Seale, Walter Mosley and many others.

I was able to avoid a lot of bullshyt that many young women got turned out on because my mind was sharp and hip to game.

Look at my signature. I was raised around murderers and dope fiends. I've never glorified that life and I've never been a party to it. I have a former classmate/neighbor from elementary school on death row right now.

My mother in particular made sure that I wasn't destroyed by my environment. She made her expectations very clear to me. And I'm sure she knew I was reading those books because I was a voracious reader.

The world is :demonic: and people need to be prepared lest they become the prey.

If someone thinks Slim was glorifying that life, they misunderstood his works. He was giving a valuable narrative about how it is run.

Yeah later on he wonders what would have happened if he would have just finished school and went into law. He was obviously a talented writer and could have put that to great use in the law profession. He was also pretty charismatic.

Yup...a lot of people think that he was glorifying it, but he wasn't. i remember reading somewhere that he meta black panther that looked at him with disgust. Dude obviously had a lot of issues with his mother. He later died poor and alone. What is funny is that most of the people who were praising him do not really care about his death and how he died.

People in particular men use it as some manual to manipulate women not the cautionary tale that it is.

Most people that read it, evidenced from the title if this thread alone are glorifying and exalting him. Let's not play dumb

You come after every thread I make and have negged me more than anyone else on this site, Pimp AND Trick Baby are classic books so you're just wrong and I'm not HOH or GMB, just a fan of his writing style. What other book can I pick up, especially from that time period, where someone speaks so rawly about their experience? Dude is just so honest "I couldn't wait to drop the last whore off and get back to my hotel room to nurse my nose with cocaine"... Dude is a legend.
