Is it true? Is it bullshyt? Is it divisive? Is it empowering?

I can't imagine growing old without a good woman and I want to be a good man for her. When I hear that kind of talk I think of damaged women
I can understand not wanting to accept any man regardless of qualities, but all women should be open to a man who complements them well.

I'm aware of the difference, however in this case we need to acknowledge that the women are saying the word need but meaning want and it is a coping method like @7Revo said. Any woman I've met that used this phrase has invariably been someone who has been hurt by a poor/abusive/absent father or ex-boyfriend(s).There's a difference between want & need. You want a good woman to grow old with, you don't need one. A woman can still want you, without needing you.
YupI always saw it as a coping method for single females.
