If she's been dating him for a while she will have a pretty good idea of how much money makes right? If he doesn't make much money then she shouldn't be surprised that the ring isn't expensive. The cost of the ring is no indication on how much he loves her. Besides, why spend so much on a ring when you can put that towards a house, or child expenses.

I don't wear costume jewelry. I'd rather have nothing than some trinket that is going to eventually change colors.

But I don't care how much my ring cost, and I have no desire to get it appraised. My ring is meaningful to me though. It was what my husband wanted to buy with what he had at the time and I will forever treasure it. And I don't want to "upgrade", even though the offer has been made.
