CLUTCH YO PEARLS: Gay Men Want To Join AKA + Threaten HBCU With Lawsuit
By BMS Staff | February 17, 2015

(BlackMediaScoop) Several male students (who like to be known as MIAKAs) at Tennessee State University are threatening to file a lawsuit claiming they have been discriminated against because the all female sorority Alpha Kappa Alpha, Incorporated will not allow them to become members.

The men are homosexual and have formed their own underground AKA sorority. They have all of the paraphernalia, signature calls and attire and are ready to finally have their probate show.

But Tennessee State University is not the only university dealing with this new trend. News of MIAKAs first surfaced several years ago when a group of men founded their own unofficial chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority at Texas Southern University and Prairie View A&M.

Greek community members were shocked when the Tri Alpha Chapter of MIAKA presented photos of men wearing pink and green and pearls, while throwing up their “pinkies.” Members were even more upset when they learned the chapter had even filmed a probate show with sounds of the sorority’s famous call “skee wee” being heard in the background.

Take a peek at the video below and let us know what you think…

They could've just became sweet nupes and KIM, but I say let them join the sororities. This black women / gay men alliance needs it's limits tested :umad:
I'm kinda thinking they shouldn't be able to join,( on the fence right now) Because Sororities are for women and sisterhood. I'm not understanding why sexual preference has anything to do with you joining an organization traditional for women? You like feminine so things this is why you want to join a sorority? There reasoning for wanting to join is coming off very vapid and shallow. I say start your own pro LBGT organization, It would be beneficial for those in LGBT community and more people can identify with the issues at hand.

This is what happens when groups try to demonize and challenge the general ideas of masculinity and femininity and gender. The lines are obvious, but liberal ideas about gender have been allowed to blur and confuse reality :francis:

I mean that is why I'm on the fence, masculinity and femininity and it relation to gender I believe needs to be questioned. Whose to say a man can't like the color pink or act "girly" because they are traditionally in a feminine space. It unfair to put a cap on how men and women should behave. However given the culture context of history and gender bias/discrimination,sororities are rooted in supporting the female( not the feminine) space and cater to women's issues and concerns.

I worded that poorly, but I meant that men (gay and trans) have to be classified as men. My argument was really meant to address sex and gender.

Men are men, women are women

That another thing about Trans. How is wearing feminine women clothes, changing you body, acting a certain way, and liking men make you a woman? Those are very superficial changes that are already based on very biased/sexist social concepts. When some trans say "I feel like a woman" I get confuse because they are just reforming sexist/misogynist concepts of what females are stereotypically suppose to be.
