Since Dynamite debuted on October 2nd, the show has been widely praised by Wrestling fans. However, many fans, and even Jim Ross on commentary, have complained about the lack of rules in tag team matches. Often wrestlers would remain in the ring for several minutes without having been tagged in, leaving viewers confused as to who was the legal competitor.

AEW World Champion Chris Jericho was also upset about this and called a meeting backstage to address the issue. Le Champion was particularly critical of The Lucha Brothers, who made excuses about why they didn’t tag each other.

On the Keepin It 100 podcast, Jericho said: “I called a team meeting…the lack of tags and normal tag team wrestling psychology drove me nuts. It’s sort of making excuses for The Lucha Brothers because tagging in and out, they’re lazy, they don’t care. They walk in and out whenever they want and it’s not right. They would make excuses where they would say, “oh it’s lucha libre style.” That’s funny, I worked in Mexico for two years and guess how you make a tag in a lucha libre match? You stand in the corner and you wait for a guy to touch you and you walk in.”

He's right, who's teaching these young bucks :troll: tag team wrestling? :patrice:

Super agree with Jericho here. Its ok for trios matches where action is everywhere but traditional tag team matches should have tags unless specified otherwise. Tag psychology can be so dope if used right.

Growing up I always found Tag Rules fascinating, the idea of tag match alone was cool, it's a shame that it's not taken seriously as it used to be.

Facts. It’s the reason Arn and Tully for instance were so good at infuriating crowds, working those tag ropes, cheating to cut off comebacks etc

The main problem isn't the lack of traditional psychology, but the fact that there doesn't seem to be a consistent tag team rule set for the wrestlers to play off of.

If they want to do traditional tag rules, fine. If they want to do the modified lucha rules (where simply exiting the ring counts similarly to a tag), that's fine as well, especially if you want faster, more chaotic tag matches. The point being, you have to pick a rule set and stick to it; this PWG style where the rules change halfway through the match only works for so long.

Psychology works by manipulating expectations, so there's no good psychology if there aren't consistent expectations. AEW needs to get themselves in order on that front.

...and with all that said, somebody needs to go ahead and smack Jericho in the mouth. He seems fukking insufferable these days.

"I called a meeting with the whole crew and said 'You're burying the ref, if you don't have any rules, you don't get any heat, and it's killing our show because our honeymoon period is over, and now people are watching us and they're being confused by the lack of rules.'"

Jericho said once they had the meeting that seemed to clear up any confusion the wrestlers had.

"Once we had a couple of talks with them, guess what they started doing? They started tagging," Jericho stated. "Maybe it was a habit or maybe nobody told them. You have a whole locker room of guys that have just worked indies their whole career and they don't know little things."

Strict adherence to tag rules hasn't been a thing for 2 going on 3 generations of wrestlers. It's such a normal thing that teams can make a whole career and gimmick out of actually following and caring about tag rules. Imagine sloppy ass drunk Jericho calling you lazy in front of the bois :hhh:

fukk all that shyt:stopitslime:

It’s really on the REFS to properly enforce the rules.

Pentagon been told these clowns “he has no fear” so make him respect them:pacspit:

Lol..... truth be told...... I never even noticed “rules weren’t being followed” and would’ve never known if it wasn’t brought up.

What’s next, scolding the guys backstage for grabbing tights or outside ring interference :troll:
