Not a bad idea, especially for those into business. That’s where most of the manufacturing is, and you’ll probably do better when you can speak the language. I remember there were Black people in the hair industry who learned Korean so they could better deal with the Korean vendors, who had shut us out of the market.

Learn Mandarin?

You mean learn Cantonese probably.

Most chinese where I live speak cantonese that come from the big cities in China.

I took Mandarin a while back. It is a difficult language to learn for native English speakers because it is a tonal language. The same word pronounced in a different tone can mean a plathora of things.

Japanese was easier than Mandarin to learn, and I assume Cantonese too.

Thecoli wrong again

The Treasury estimated net marketable borrowing, the difference between the total amount to be borrowed and the amount of debt maturing, will be $514 billion for the three months from April through June. Treasury’s initial estimate, which it made public in February, was for $123 billion.

A senior official said that the Treasury wasn’t able to keep the cash balance in the Treasury General Account as high as it had expected due to constraints related to the limit on the size of the federal debt. That led to the increase.

Already got a digital translator coming in the mail straight from Hong Kong :banderas::blessed:

Learning a language is for peasants :hhh:

What about people who learn a language later on?
Students who are learning a second language later in life can still benefit from some of the neurological changes that happen to speakers of second languages, no matter what level they are at. Having new experiences (novelty) is an important factor in forming new connections in the brain and strengthening nervous system links. These links and connections are maintained through regular practice.

Studying a new language combines novelty with practice. For example, students learn new words and grammatical constructs and spend time reviewing and building on their previous knowledge as part of the learning process.

This combination is one of the reasons that language learning is such an effective brain workout and protects older learners against dementia and other degenerative neurological conditions.

But everyone can benefit from language learning. It is arguably one of the most complex mental activities you can do. So, it’s a powerful way to exercise your brain.
