Yea that's fukked up. I know that's the way to do it with babies though

Learning to swim is good but a lot of people don't realize a lake and the ocean are very different beasts. You still have to very careful around major water parts, your average community pool swimmer won't last long

I'd say learn to float too, that is a real life saver when you get tired.
Not many people know the panic of getting tired while in the water, Floating probably kept me safe during some water skiing trips,

@Ezekiel 25:17 I mean, yes natural rushing water is more intense than still but 99% of swimmers start with a pool; as you gain in skill and confidence you are also capable/good in bodies of water.

You cant be good in bodies of water if you aren't actively training. Fighting currents kill people. Your average swimmer isn't lasting long at all in the ocean , shyt is 5x harder than running. Only life guards and maybe surfers, people who practically live in water, can swim those currents.

You should have enough confidence to survive for rescue, that's really it.

You just have to spend time in bodies off water and you can sort of pick up its habits. Again, drowning can happen to anybody, but experience and instincts can kick in. Like in ocean currents, trying to swim parallel to the shoreline. Or if caught in a waterfall, don’t try and swim up, but go as deep as you can and swim away from the pull of the fall.

Breh unless you live in the ocean, which a majority of people don't, there is no getting used to them. Don't get me wrong, people can swim in the ocean, but only for so long before they tire out. Look at your average person, they couldn't swim a quarter mile.

California Life guards train like crazy for a reason, to save over confident people who think they can take on mother nature.

Ur correct. Let me clarify. I meant comfortable. Obviously they are dangerous, but simple things between panic and calmness will save your life, or at least give you a better chance with time for help to arrive.

@Ezekiel 25:17 Currents aren’t the only dangers of water, but I’m not sure what you’re saying. Is swimming important to learn or not?
you damn real it's important. even if you're not used to, or even never have been in an ocean or a river, knowing how to swim may save your life. at least you would know how to survive until you could figure out what you needed to do.

and it's important for the recreational and social aspect. be feeling horrible for the people that can't swim and are scared to even go near the pool at pool parties.

and what about your kids/future kids? you wanna be able to swim and splash around the ppl with them
