It's actually common to request a prison. Your attorney does it at the sentencing.

The BOP classifies by your offense, and the defense attorney usually requests a prison close to the defendant's home, to make visits easier.

she was caught selling dope to an undercover cop. But she also do what you said. They punishment ran concurrently but most used the address thing as the reason she went to jail. She did get the same sentence for both which is absurd tho
