It irritates me that people refer to this as one of the best diss tracks based solely on its viciousness

I wouldn't go as far as what you're saying but it definitely is helped propped up heavily by the intensity of the disses and the rant at the end. It's one of those songs that's still a classic but not necessarily because it's an amazing song.

Hit Em Up is a dope dis track. Forget all of that other stuff like impact, cause I never care about it. It were pure ferocity unleashed. Even his rant at the end, he was still rhymin. Hit Em Up was the kind of dis track you have to respond to. You can't even ignore that ish.

Ether & Takeover are the ones that are mediocre to me. Those are just ranked so highly because of the stature of the artists.
