Besides being a GREAT album that I enjoy a lot, do you think this album has had any influence?

What has been game changing about this album?

YG said he got the idea for his album from Kendricks. So far though I'm not sure I hear more skits now but skits have been around forever.

I feel like you're gonna see a lot of rappers go for a more 90's, organic sound cause of the success of that album. I think the rap industry as a whole is gearing towards a turn and when it's in full effect a lot of people might look back on that album and remember it as the spark that ignited the flame. Plus it set the bar for quality and originality when it comes to new rappers tryna make a name in the game. You know it could kinda act as a blueprint for debut albums in the years to come. More emphasis on tryna make timeless music and not so much effort on tryna cash in on the latest trend.

But in reality it hasn't even been 2 years yet so it's kinda hard to gauge it's influence right now. Wait awhile.

It wasn't really influential to me.

I thought the big thing that made it so popular was how down to earth, relateable and intelligent it was. A whole lot less talking down to the audience than most rap joints. Cole has that same kinda appeal too.

Influential, I don't see it. Though a rise of concept albums in mainstream might be kinda cool. :ehh:

The album overall is just different from a lot of whats going on in (mainstream) hip hop right now, and it's also a concept album, so you hear it a few times and start putting the story together and understanding/possibly relating to more of it the more you hear it.

I know a lot of people on this board are Kendrick haters, even though I'm sure most of them thought Section 80 was god's gift to hip hop when it came out, but you can't deny that Kendrick has sent a lot of rappers home rethinking their whole shyt, and setting the bar higher for hip hop as a whole.

Long story short, GKMC is a great album in an era of hip hop thats looking the best it's ever been since the early/mid 90's

It makes the smart rappers who are young going for quality albums again, instead of doing bullshyt dances like the nae nae. When K-Dot drops his follow up later this year, is when you start to see the impact of GKMC.

I'm hoping that in the very least, Dre knows what to do, and what not to do in hip hop, and will guide and criticize Kendrick in the writing of his new album to be nothing short of great.

I love GKMC, but I'm hoping his new shyt will be even better. I guess we'll see.
