He would have never blown on his own he just seemed too run of the mill back then. And if even now when he tries to be different people still dont check for him smh. Hes not a bad rapper just nothing special about him. Theres a reason people want a andre album so bad in the midst of big boi dropping 3 during that timeframe.

He would've been cool starting off...say if instead of dre outkast was a duo comprised of big boi and ceelo or another df member or affiliate, I think they'd have a good chance of reaching the same type of success as spcm era kast (platinum debut..put DF and the atl scene on the map). ..now further down the line is where I see the two hypotheticals diverging. ..dre started becoming more eccentric and creative from the 2nd album onward and that went a long way towards their wilder appeal outside of fans of just some soulful down south playa shyt...and I agree, yeah there's no superstardom and diamond plaques and 5 mics and grammy awards without what Andre 3000 eventually become. ..but big would've had a more than solid career as a atl and down south legend, a career arc that more closely resembled ugks for example

LOL @ OP saying let's be real as if anybody was ever thinking otherwise. He never even became a star solo wise. I think Sir Lucious Leftfoot is some of the best material in the Dungeon Fam catalogue, but I never heard nobody really praising it like that. And the second solo came and went faster than the Caveman tv show

Big Boi is criminally underrated and this thread is a clear example....

totally agree. yes 3 stacks is the superior rapper, but big boi is a ridiculously good rapper in his own right. and any doubts about what he can do on his own should have been squashed by the stellar 2 solo albums he's already dropped.

I'm glad the last few dudes above me said this.

IMO Big Boi was the better MC, rapper...whatever (especially earlier on)
Andre's clout only REALLY blew up when Eminem mentioned him in his top rappers list

I am NOT saying he's trash so don't flip this...IMO they are one of the greatest groups for a reason cuz both of them were dope. but Big Boi was that dude.

Big Boi is like a southern version of Jadakiss - a great rapper with no type of charisma, look, or "it factor". And the so-called "it factor" goes a long way in rap. You think if Snoop didn't have that weird voice/look he would ever be as popular? What about Method Man? What about Ludacris? DMX? See my point? Big Boi is simply way too generic.
