From Illmatic to now, every new Nas album is always big news in the Hip Hop

Even the Nas-haters gotta agree :ahh:

1. Illmatic - Maybe the biggest event in Hip Hop history. Critically acclaimed as soon at is dropped in stores. The second coming, a Hip Hop masterpiece. And 20 years down the line, still COMMERCIALLY relevant. Not alot of albums can say that

2. It Was Written - Whether good or bad, the reviews garnered alot of attention. It was dissed by old dusty hip hop nerds who wanted Illmatic part 2 :mjlol:. But it ended up being influential (along with other albums) in bringing street with heavy use of melodic samples

3. I Am - "We Will Survive" was hands down the best Biggie and Tupac tribute. And tell me nikkas wasn't blasting "Hate me Now" riding to work, damaging their speakers :lawd:

4. Nastradamus - Like I said, good or bad, Nas still got attention for a sub-par album :heh:. Still had some heaters though

5. Stillmatic - fukk what your soul like ether. Teach you the King you know this, God Son across the belly, I prove you lost already :ahh:. Lets just say those verses reclaimed Nas as the King of NY and GOAT

6. God's Son - I love my momma too :sadcam:

7. Street's Disciples - "These are our Heroes" made:ufdup: those c00ns throw away their black-face makeup

8. Hip Hop is Dead - To me his BIGGEST event. Told all these wack rappers to step their game up. Told these so-called Hip Hop fans to respect their Hip Hop elders of the 80s and 90s. Influenced me as a young teen to take this culture seriously, and us new generation cats have a tradition to uphold :whew:

9. Untitled - Still named "******" in my Ipod. Powerful, powerful deep lyrics. People think that "We Make the World Go Round" was just a song title. Nah nikka, Us Black people make the world go round!! :ohlawd:

10. Distant Relatives -

Let us witness the piffness :wow:

11. Life is Good - Showed his lyrical skills only get better with age. That he can put out an album as a legend, and still touch the youth

He got a new album coming out. Escobar season has returned :blessed:

5 star/dap/rep, even if I dont agree about Nastradamus. That kind of attention isn't really something worth bigging up :patrice:

Depending on how you spin it it is though. If some other emcee came out with Nastradamus people either wouldn't even notice/acknowledge it or they'd hail it as a good album. It's because of Nas' greatness in the past and at that time that it got so heavily criticized. It's like if LeBron averages 28 points in the Finals he underachieved but if Kawhi Leonard averages 18 in the Finals he's the MVP. It's a different set of standards for different artists and Nasir's standard is at the highest level possible.

Certainly back in the day it was and I think there's always a group of fans in Hip Hop who set aside time for a Nas album. It got harder for him to capture everyone's attention in later years even if those albums still went to number 1 on the Billboard charts and got various people talking, simply because the climate is always shifting for him in those 20 years but he's done well enough to hang around. But yeah I mean I always at something like the buildup to I am and Stillmatic as some of the best examples where the anticipation was like a full year out

I can agree with this. Nas caught flack for It Was Written! :mindblown::why:

Jay Z got away with Tom Ford. If Nas put that out, he would get ROASTED.

Still relevant 20+ years in. There's a reason for that. Not sure anyone has a better overall catalog; don't forget he's the undisputed champ of murdering guest spots.
