I really wanna hate the later retard version of Eric but dude was just too funny with it

And Cory just seemed to turned into a whiny man-child with a questionable relationship with Shawn. That episode where Cory and Topanga got married was ridiculous ......they really made the wedding about Cory and Shawn, with the fight and the making up afterwards. I know it's a sitcom and it's supposed to be just jokes but still......

yeah shyt didn't make sense. but eric became one of the funniest characters the show ever had. especially the college years. Whenever he showed up on screen, you knew it was gonna be jokes
plus when he started doing that feeeny call near the end was gold
outside of eric, the college years didn't really have that much good comedy

best episode is where Corey and Shawn get drunk and piss on a cop car. So much unintentional comedy as its trying to be a serious episode. Shawn then can't stop drinking and goes to school drunk.

When I think about it, it's quite amazing how well he pulled off both versions of the Eric character.

this dude eric showed up as cory's lawyer and he was playing his own courtroom theme music in his briefcase

I admit the fukkery is timeless but it has to come down to preference because I'm a fan of characters on shows more than anything else; characters and dialogue and the minute you have characters that are established and you decide to change their personalities and it doesn't seem organic, it bugs me out. Which is why I don't mind Shawn's evolution because that sensitive side of his was always there and it would come out every now and then but due to his background with his parents, he had to keep that side hidden a lot because Shawn, at his core, was a guy who liked to guard his feelings in order to protect himself and once his life settled down more and he had stable people around him and people he knew wouldn't leave him, he opened up more

Getting dumber worked for Eric because he was hilarious. Sometimes it doesn't work though, like the Wayans Bros where Marlon was practically a full blown retard by the end of that show. Eric needed that change though because before that did anyone really give a shyt what he was up to?

That episode where Eric stalks Topanga after she beats him up still have me dyin to this day



I don't think it worked for Joey on Friends or Marlon on Wayans Bros, but the retardation was perfect for Eric Mathews
