Movies?

Don’t get me wrong they have popular movies but we can all agree it’s not like a comprehensive library. For example HBO Max for example has much more popular movies in their library at any given time. I was just curious how these licensing deals are struck between Netflix & the average studio.

Do they go to studios with specific movies in mind?
How do these studios come to a value regarding what they are willing to license?
Why is HBO able to strike deals where they get better movies?

If you consider HBO Max for what it really is (Warner Media's streaming services using the HBO brand name for clout), things will start to make sense.

As studios and networks start to launch their own Netflix competitors, they've become cautious about what they license and what they keep in order to build their own streaming libraries and boost subscribers.

Basically, HBOMax gets all the Warner stuff, Disney + gets all the Disney stuff. These are the two biggest studios in Hollywood. That leaves Netflix with only Universal, Paramount and even smaller studios to license shyt from.

I understand this but the weird movie streaming selection is something that’s always been apart of The Netflix story. If you were to tell me certain studios have their Kev streaming services in the works for years cool...I’m still curious as to how studios not only come to the values they do regarding brokering deals for their content with Netflix, but also whether or not Netflix approach these studios with particular movies in mind or just whatever they have available

Movies are probably more expensive to license. Netflix is basically at a subscription ceiling and their model has worked, so it wouldn't make sense to buy the licensing for a bunch of major movies.

Netflix had an enormous lineup of classic films in 2015-2017
but the studios all decided to make their own and started closing their doors for deals.

yea pretty much this. Other companies saw netflix get big off of their content so they all tried to copy their strategy which is why netlflix started making original content. Its like borrowing tools from your neighbors for $1 each and using them to make $100.

eventually they will be like give me my shyt back since u showed me i can make money with it too. Netflix got a lot of foreign studios too so that helps keep their subscribers up with shows like money heist
