Let’s just end this debate right now, Kobe Bryant dominated Tim Duncan’s teams in the playoffs. Like, consistently, every single time.

If Duncan was playing with prime Shaq, Spurs would have seven or eight championships :mjlol:

also, those obsessing over stats, Duncan was always also the best defensive player on the court. But you fags aren’t gonna realize that doesn’t show up in the box score

Don’t forget in 2003, Spurs had zero All-Stars on that team besides Tim Duncan. And he had Kobe literally in tears at the end of that series

Kobe stans in shambles.

Can’t put him on MJ level.
Can’t put him on Bron level.
Bleacher Report got him outside the Top 10.

Now they out here going at Timmy.

Pretty soon they’re gonna be arguing which NBA player got the best street murals

"Kobe vs Duncan" head-to-head is a bit weird/random when the comparison in real time was Duncan vs Shaq, where in their first 5 playoff series (99, 01, 02, 03, 04) Duncan matched or outplayed LAL Shaq in each one (actually avg more points, rebounds, assists, steals than Shaq in their career playoff head-to-head), with Shaq having a 3-2 series record (3-3 tie if you count '08 Suns/Spurs) in part bc his "sidekick" was Kobe who dominated Duncan's sidekicks which were often some Antonio Daniels, Derek Anderson ass nyggas.

My point is, you can't neglect context by singling out '08 (and ignoring '99) w/o also factoring it was 2 on 1 from '01-'04 in Shaq/Kobe's favor, and Bean's injuries prevented him from partaking in that '13 SAS 1st rd massacre where Duncan had the talent advantage, with the '13 and '14 Spurs being Duncan's most stacked teams, outside of '16.

Duncan's all time placement is more to do with his complete body of work (regardless of if that places him in the top 5 or top 10), and not his head-to-head scoring games vs a 6'6 shooting guard.
Duncan vs Shaq was never a serious argument. Shaq was CLEARLY better although kobe was usually the best player in the matchups

Duncan has only scored 40+ pts in 11 games in his entire career. You are not putting a team on your back scoring only scoring 20+ pts. Honestly how can a top 5 or 10 player only score 40pts 11x in his career and be considered dominant or the best?

Because there’s more to the game than scoring.

Tim was a walking triple double? What was he dominant in? Assist? Benefited from always playing with another 7ft C. Nothing about Tim Duncan was dominant. He wasn't the go to player in fourth. Blocks and rebounds are the only category that Duncan has over Kobe and not even close. Also Hakeem deserves it over Duncan. Hakeem actually DOMINATED and has the STATS the prove it. Number 1 in Blocks. And was in top 10 in Blocks, Steals, Rebounds, and points when he retired.

And what Year was Tim Duncan considered the best player in the NBA? To be top 10 or 5 All-Time you at least had to be best player in league a year or 2. Tim got mvp in 01 and 02. He won MVP but he was not considered the best player in the league those years.
