Not Japan
as different as they might be, people will still compare them , but imo dilla is the more versatile and more talented producer. :yeshrug:

Um, this is not necessarily going out on a limb. Dilla is a damn Hip Hop legend and has reached almost mythical status after his death. Nujabes is revered as well, but it's not like you're making an outlandish statement. To state the opposite would be a more shocking statement.

For the record, I agree, although I love Nujabes as well.

Nujabes is crazy from a pure musicians aspect, but the question should be Madlib vs Dilla. maybe even Kanye vs Dilla

like 40 seconds, the piano part before pure musicianship

Raw hip-hop

FlyLo finding a balance between the two

No Dilla flip, but I'm just sayin, Nujabes stayed more on the classical side, dude was a composer. He never had a Dilla Kraftwerk dirty electronic phase, or a soulful Motown phase. Dilla had styles upon styles

They were both great honestly.

Nujabes is a great producer and creator of soundscapes
But I'm gonna have to go with Dilla...mainly because so much of his music is straight Detroit and reps that Detroit culture.

He samples Kraftwerk, which reminds me of Detroit techno and how the first person to break Kraftwerk in the states was a black radio DJ from Detroit in the early 80s.
He sampled Wings' "Simply having a wonderful christmas time" for one beat...
He sampled The Carpenters...
