The current will have you swimming in circles around the middle of the ocean till you die. The current out that far is a lot stronger than the stuff you experience at the shore.

WITH NO CURRENT I MIGHT MAKE IT. I LEARNED HOW TO SWIM WITH MINIMAL EFFORT. MOST I EVER DID WAS 147 LAPS STRAIGHT NON STOP IN A POOL. I THINK IT CAME OUT TO JUST OVER 2 MILES. I WASN'T EVEN WINDED. I WASN'T EVEN IN SHAPE EITHER. SO I'M SURE THE 6 FIGURE 6 CERT ALPHA MALES HERE COULD DO IT IN UNDER AN HOUR.

I've actually read about this. Apparently, it's pretty damn hard to read the currents, without the proper tools, so it'd be hard as hell to even make it to an island even if you could see it.

shyt would seem always out of reach.

Yeah, you could swim as hard as you can and it wouldn't matter if that current is pulling south/north/east/west. You're basically swimming in place as the water pulls you along. There was some dude that tried to walk across the atlantic in an inflatable ball last year and he got caught in the currents just a little off the shore. He ended up calling for help cause he was getting dehydrated and had been basically running in place due to the currents.

I'm the best doggy paddler this side of the Hudson River and I don't think I'd last if I was that far our in the ocean.

Now maybe I might stretch it by alternating between floating on my back and paddling but I dunno
