I don't know shyt. Hell, all I can say is get in the door. I am going to law school so hopefully business/corporate still appeals to me then.

Yeah I'm going into the education and foreign language sector. I don't care too much for corporate America.

Said this before but it truly is the only way to get ahead in life.

It's all about NETWORKING and socializing with the people that make decisions on you.

It's human nature to promote/give raise/whatever you wanna call it in your field to a person they like personally.

It's NOT about working the hardest. It's about having pride in your work and NETWORKING.

Leave the education, accomplishments etc in the bushes...

Trying to climb the corporate ladder as black person is a waste of time. The quickest and most effective way to increase salary and job titles is to change jobs. You don't have to kiss any ass. Don't ever be loyal to any one company. Use every job to increase your skill set and get certifications and training so you can demand more from your next job. Don't stay at any job over 3 years if you have not been promoted or gotten at least a 10k salary increase. Don't be afraid to move to a new city for a better opportunity.

swear to god 3 1/2 years ago i was selling pills n lean/swipin/sending money OT…takin dumb ass life risks

got a chance to change my life and took off from there…went from 15 an hour to averaging about 8k a month…even took home a 12 band check in july…imma fukk around n be senior banker in november

plus nowadays you aint gotta kiss no ass, i never went out my way to please somebody unless it was a client

what I'm saying is….you aint gotta win everything....yea you wanna be a winner….but it really is about relationships and who you know

You're over thinking it.

Being good at your job is an obvious piece of advice.

But it really just comes down to relationships. You don't have to "c00n" but you have to build relationships with the important people.

Take up golf if they golf. Take up hunting if they go hunting, etc.

Me being in Miami, I've been fortunate. We bond over Happy Hours on a regular.

Two words: brown nose. If you think that is a c00n-thing or not. It is exactly what you are talking about. Going out golfing or to out-of-office activities. A lot of women who are also trying to climb the corporate ladder complain about a glass ceiling because they don't participate in these man-based activities (because they don't get invited because it can include guy's only night out stuff). Anyway, in these get togethers, business deals are finalized. Whether on the golf course or at the bar. you take the client out and real business deals get made. Or you just become a friend to talk to and hang out. The boss feels relaxed around you, then that smooths things out for you in the office. I was stupid and did not brown nose. I thought I could succeed without building relationships. Plus, I am a loner of sorts. It hurts to be an introvert in the corporate world. Really.

there are usually programs out there for "high performance" as well... once you get flagged into that category lot of doors will open
