Nah bruh that PS3 dualshock is so dam durable. I drop that shyt damn near everyday on hard tile and that thing is still kicking.
I got almost 80 hrs on BF4 and slam R1 repeatedly, the left stick clicked all game, and mash up on R2 big time with burst fire, my shyt still works fine 
Plus mad AC4, Resogun, and NB2K14.
I agree about the material on the sticks though. Initially there was some residue like an eraser than had been rubbed, but now they're smoother slightly and seem to have stopped.
You got to admit this thing feels great in the hands though.

No, on PS3. I use the usb wire to have it work.

Yep, just set the DS3 to controller 2 and connect the DS4 with the usb cable, you should be able to play. Here's the list of games it works with:
