Was there a group that was more influential to UGK (and bc of that, the foundations of Houston rap) than NWA? Specifically looking through Pimp C, who as both a rapper and producer controlled the sound of the duo the most, it seems like he is directly influenced by Eazy E in terms of rapping and Dr Dre in terms of producing. I wouldn't be surprised if NWA was one of his favorite groups.

Who else contributed to influence UGK and the beginnings of Houston hip hop?

I think a lot of early east coast groups were just as influential to them they referenced a lot of their lyrics

Examples? I honestly can't see much of an east coast influence from them, not even Bun. In fact I'm a little stumped as to where Bun got or evolved his flow from, it seems very unique for the time

Royal Flush and WC.

Flush and most of WC's shyt also came well after UGK, I really don't think you guys are making logical points here.

I'm talking about the people who laid the sound down for them from the get go. UGL's first album came out in 1993, n all these cats you guys are naming came later

Unless you really did mean they were on WC's early shyt

Ricky royal was an influence on pimp. You Need to go to trillconnection.com and chop it up with percy mack. Bun flow changed from 2nd album to 3rd. Said he was around some cats. There names slip my mind right now but both coasts influenced them. G rap to cube, wc to kane and so on. Rap alot first group was from new york.
