The average (white) male gamers are some of the most obnoxious and repulsive human beings (and I used the words "human beings" loosley) on planet earth. It's not all and some of the most cordial gamers I've befriended online were white, but they're too far and in between for it to be a case of this sort of thing being the exception as opposed to the rule. I don't even browse certain gaming boards anymore because of the clear radicalization of these social recluses. I actually don't do much online gaming and haven't in years, in small part due to how grating the expierence got with the average sexually frustrated vagabond that's most common in these games. It's honestly to the degree that it's simply more annoying and boring than anything. If I do game via multiplayer (which isn't often since I much prefer to game in solitude when I have the time to pick up the controller) it's with friends on my list.
I don't know, man.
The "inherently" thing used to be said in jest, but there's really something to it. You see this not only from the dejected geek whom can't handle losing in CoD or 2k, but also in how such a portion of that particular demographic starts cutting their wrists and issuing death threat & boycotts anytime the protagonist is anything other than a white male. They really, really seem determined that they will not coexist with "others" and it is always consistently the same demographic. Eventually, you have to believe the bubble will pop and push back will begin.
I think we're already seeing it from developers with the influx of games featuring more minority protagonist -- especially female. It's almost a blatant middle finger to that demo and quite frankly, it's long overdue, but it certainly isn't enough. To see this issue handled entirely, the chief issue will need to be addressed, and we are a good ways away from the U.S. getting close to owning up to its' history and
doing so. The speech exhibited online is simply a symptom of a much deadlier disease. Until that cancer is addressed, those symptoms won't really go anywhere and the best you could hope for is remission.
